FAQ
Frequently asked questions.
A few of the things we’re commonly asked before an appointment.
Osteopathic Works is a primary healthcare practice, so you do not need a referral. If you are part of a Chronic Disease Management Plan you will need a referral from your GP.
01
Do I need a referral?
How many treatments do I need?
02
This depends on your condition and your goals. You may notice changes in your symptoms after one or two visits. Longer-term or chronic conditions may require more treatment. Your osteopath will discuss this with you during your initial consultation.
Can I claim the cost of my treatment?
03
We have HICAPS facilities for patients with extras cover under their Private Health Insurance. Medicare rebates are available through the Chronic Disease Management Program (if you have a GP referral), and a gap fee payment applies.
How long is my appointment?
04
Initial Osteopathic consultations are 60 minutes. Standard follow-up consultations are 30 minutes, with the option of 60 minute return comprehensive consultations if required.
Shockwave Therapy sessions are 15 minutes.
Myotherapy consultations are 60 or 90 minutes depending on your area of concern.
What do I wear?
05
We recommend wearing comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows you to move easily. Depending on the area being assessed and treated, you may be asked to remove some items of clothing. Your privacy and comfort are always respected.
What should I expect at my first appointment?
06
Your first appointment includes a discussion about your symptoms and health history, followed by an assessment of how your body moves and functions. Your osteopath will explain their findings and discuss a treatment plan tailored to you. You’ll also have the opportunity to ask any questions about your care.
